Dear Parents,
Welcome to Salem Baptist Preschool, to the 5 Day 4’s class. I am Sally Lowther and I am blessed to be your new teacher. This is my twelfth year teaching and I adore working with 4’s. I have four special children of my own that are growing up rapidly and I realize how precious these years are. My assistant is Shelia Boor and she loves working with children.
Our curriculum will incorporate a monthly calendar, which will include weekly themes that will help your child grow spiritually, socially, mentally, and physically. We will have four circles times for learning, sharing and listening skills. We will engage in center time for discovery, cooperation and fun. I will be reading Bible stories and acting them out with the children to enhance their memory of them. We will also have chapel on Wednesday at 11:00a.m.with Mrs. Jan Owen. She loves to teach the word and uses different puppets to help teach the message from the Bible. We will have music three times a week starting at 10:20a.m. for twenty minutes with wonderful Mrs. Booth. Her class is upstairs in our building and we will take an elevator up to her class. In late September we will start learning the alphabet, which will be in random order to pertain to our themes. We will practice writing our names with capital and lower case letters. They will need to be familiar with these terms in kindergarten. We will review colors and shapes. All year long we will work with numbers, counting by tens to one hundred and math concepts. Please refer to handbook for a list of objectives we have for the four year olds.
We will begin our day at 9:00a.m. after the teachers return from prayer. Please try to be on time because we start circle at 9:10. Please allow your child to gain independence by coming through the door by him or herself. Parents, separation is harder when you come in the room. Please do not drop off any child early because we are not allowed to care for them. If you do need help try to ask or phone another parent to help your child that day.
Our daily schedule will be in the September newsletter. The centers in the class will be identified by the color and shape. Each day the helper( child’s name on calendar) and caboose may choose which center to start at and I will place everyone else in various centers. They stay with the same group as they rotate in centers. Everyone learns to make new friends and learn to enjoy all centers. The centers are the Pink Diamond or Surprise Center, it may include large puzzles, large activity toys, etc. Next is the Blue Square or Writing Center where fine motors skills are developed. We will be working on ABC books that will finish at the end of the year. The Purple Circle features the blocks and building center. The Red Octagon contains books and teddy bears to hug. The Yellow Triangle or Home Living, where imaginations run wild and we enjoy a sensory table once a week The Green Rectangle is an assorment of puzzles, manipulatives for expression and use of fine motor skills. Also playdough made by class familes are a big hit at this center. I will put up a volunteer sign-up sheet to help make playdough each month. We will hand a copy of the recipe and color for playdough to the helpful parent on the list. Last is the Orange Oval or Art Center. I love art and I love to try all kinds of things with the children.
